Holy Apostles Parish Upper Tantallon

Ways to serve

|| AT MASS

The source and summit of who we are as Catholic Christians is our Liturgy – Eucharistic Liturgy. In order to make each and every Mass a true offering of who we are and hope to be, there is a need for people to share their time and talent in ministry.

  • Lectors/Readers: Proclaim the Word of God
  • Extra-Ordinary Ministers of Communion: Assist the priest in sharing Eucharist. Some of these ministers may also bring communion to the Sick or homebound
  • Mass Coordinators: Make certain that all ministry is in place and that the presider is ready.
  • Altar Servers: Serve the altar and may be youth or adult. They assist the priest around the worship area from holding books to dressing the altar.
  • Hospitality: Greet and meet all people coming and going from the Church. They are the first people we encounter as we enter and they are the ones who assist in giving information to direction.
  • Usher: Help people in finding a seat, taking collection
  • Musicians: Music and singers are integral to the Mass and they lead us in song and response
  • AV: Technology is a key component in our communications and assistance during a Mass. They help with screens, video, sound and cameras.

|| THE COMMUNITY

Service is ministry and a part of being a member of the Church. Service may come in many different forms and people are encouraged to find ways to serve their community.

  • St. Marguerite Bourgeoys:
    SSVP: An organization that assists in meeting the needs of those who may need help in terms of advocacy, food or visitation. Christmas and Back to School projects are just 2 ways that this outreach is visible.
    Membership on Pastoral Councils, Liturgy, Ladies Guild, Knights of Columbus. Various committees and organizations offer ways to serve the community. Each one is unique and open to all.
  • St. Joseph:
    Food for Friends is a ministry designed to aid those in need of some help in making meals for anyone in the community who may be living alone, or going through a serious illness, recovery, a difficult loss in their family or some other traumatic event which may disrupt their daily schedule. This community works in groups of 3 and cooks a complete hot meal for those in need
  • St. Augustine and Missions:

|| THE PARISH

Service to the Parish is seen in peoples’ willingness to be part of a committee, organization or work quietly to maintain properties and flower beds. There is no one way to serve the parish!! These are a few ideas….

  • St. Marguerite Bourgeoys:
    • Knights of Columbus: International organization that encourages prayer, charity and works for the good of the Parish
    • Ladies Guild: Committee of women who assist in the Ministry of Hospitality – 1st Communion, Confirmation or Funerals.
    • Carpentry and Maintenance: people gifted in these fields that keep the building up right and in proper working shape.
  • St. Joseph:
    • “ManCave”: group of men who meet on a regular basis and will carry our various parish projects from dinners to maintenance.
  • St. Augustine and Missions:
