FINANCIAL
How to Support Our Parish Financially
Pre-Authorized Remittances (PAR)
PAR is invaluable to the parish in these times as these contributions still arrive even if you can’t. For the parish, PAR provides a steadier and more predictable stream of funds. This is extremely helpful for budgeting and planning for larger projects. Contact the Parish office at 902-826-2696 or email engagehap@gmail.com. The PAR form is available to download here.
Canada Helps (Credit Cards can be used here)
You can now make donations to Holy Apostles Parish through Canada Helps. Through this safe and secure site you can support any Canadian charity and centralize all your giving. If you choose to use one, a free account allows you to track all your giving, set giving goals, manage monthly gifts, and more. Choose to receive an instant tax receipt after each donation or a summary receipt at the end of each year for all donations.
For those who have asked about using a credit card, Canada Helps allows you to donate using one. You can make one time or recurring donations.
E-Transfers
E-transfers can be made to holyapostlesparish16@gmail.com. Please include your envelope number or contact info so we can ensure that we credit the right person for the donation!
Stock Donations
Aligning Your Investment with Your Values
Did you know that the Archdiocese of Halifax-Yarmouth and its parishes can accept stock donations? A stock donation is a way to give to a charitable organization by donating shares of publicly traded stocks, mutual funds, or other securities instead of cash. This type of donation can provide significant benefits for both the donor and the charity.
Why would someone donate stocks?
Tax Advantages: Avoid capital gains tax on appreciated stocks while receiving a charitable tax receipt.
Increased Impact: The value of donated stocks is often greater than if they were sold first and then donated in cash.
Align Investments with Values: If you own stocks that no longer reflect your beliefs and values, you can turn them into meaningful giving.
How It Works
Decide which stocks to donate: Identify investments that you no longer wish to hold.
Transfer the stocks: By contacting Melissa Lunn at 902-429-9800 or development@halifaxyarmouth.org.
Receive a charitable tax receipt: The donation is eligible for tax benefits, allowing you to give wisely and generously.

Two very different responses to our Lord’s passion are highlighted during the Gospel reading from Luke today: the response of Simon of Cyrene and the response of Jesus’ acquaintances. Of Simon we are told, “They took hold of a certain Simon, a Cyrenian, who was coming in from the country; and after laying the cross on him, they made him carry it behind Jesus.” Whether Simon entered willingly and compassionately into this service or whether he took up the Cross of Christ with a grudge, we don’t know. What we do know is this: Simon did his part faithfully. He stayed near to Christ, carrying the Cross until our Lord reached Golgotha, the site of His crucifixion. We also know that Simon’s family was among the first of the early Christians. Staying near to Christ, embracing the Cross (quite literally), transformed his life and the life of his family.
In contrast, near the end of this Gospel account, we are told of another reaction to Jesus’ passion and death, namely that “all His acquaintances stood at a distance.” They knew Jesus! They had heard him preaching and teaching, witnessed His signs and miracles, maybe even benefitted personally from them. Perhaps they did not participate in mocking Him or calling for His crucifixion. But they chose to stay a safe distance from Him when the going got tough. Unlike Simon, they refused to go too near to Christ.
Where will you place yourself this week? Keeping your distance from all the pain and suffering Christ endured? Or close by, staying near to Him as Simon did? It is when we go near to Christ that we can be transformed by Him. It is by embracing the crosses in our lives, stewarding them well rather than trying to run from them, that we become His true disciples.
