To donate, you may send an e-transfer to ssvpsmbc@gmail.com; alternatively if you prefer to write a cheque, please make the cheque payable SSVP St. Marguerite Bourgeoys.

                                                             Deadline: December 10, 2024

Coats for Kids
Please help keep our young people warm!

Every year the Knights of Columbus purchase winter coats for less fortunate youth in our parish. Last year we were able to respond to this need by purchasing 216 winter coats and distribute them to children through a network of school contacts in all parts of the Holy Apostles Parish boundary including New Ross, Chester, Hubbards, Tantallon, Hammonds Plains, Timberlea, Prospect and Shad Bay.

Once again, the Knight’s are committed to this important initiative. In anticipation of the need again this year, the Council has already placed an order for 288 coats valued at $8,280 (24 x $345). Individual Knights and their families are generously donating their own money and time to raise funds for our annual Coats for Kids Fund.

We anticipate that the need will be at least as large as last year and are therefore appealing to parishioners to consider supporting this initiative by committing to buy a coat for one needy child. The cost is just $28.75 per coat as they are sourced through a national procurement process and come in orders of 12.

We recognize that there are many areas of need in our parish and do not want to have funds diverted from the many other important causes. We are asking you to prayerfully reflect on this request and if you can do so, we ask you to commit to purchasing one or more coats.

All monies donated will only be used as part of our annual Coats for Kids Fund. The Knights of Columbus have partnered with the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) to assist with our fund-raising efforts. Funds donated via the SSVP will be eligible for an Income Tax receipt.

If you wish to support this initiative, funds can be donated to SSVP identified as supporting the Coats for Kids. Funds can be donated via cheque or e-transfers to ssvpsmbc@gmail.com. If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Marilyn Paul MacDonald via email at paulleymac@icloud.com.

Thank you and God Bless, The Knights of Columbus Council 12917

Heavenly Father,

In times of uncertainty, we place our trust in your provision. You are the God who provides for the lilies and the sparrows, and we know you care for us even more.

As we navigate financial challenges, remind us of your faithfulness throughout history. Strengthen our faith and guide us in stewarding our church’s resources. We thank you for being our provider.

Amen.

How to Support Our Parish Financially

Pre-Authorized Remittances (PAR)
PAR is invaluable to the parish in these times as these contributions still arrive even if you can’t. For the parish, PAR provides a steadier and more predictable stream of funds. This is extremely helpful for budgeting and planning for larger projects. Contact the Parish office at 902-826-2696  or email engagehap@gmail.com. The PAR form is available to download here

Closing of Cemeteries

We are coming to the end of the season for our cemeteries. As of Nov. 1st, 2024, the cemeteries of Holy Apostles Parish will be closed until after May 1st, 2025.  There will be no burials, installments of monuments or work done in the cemeteries during the closed period. This is necessary to protect the grounds from damage.

The cemeteries of Holy Apostles are vibrant, active places which are constantly being attended for burials and maintenance. We strive to maintain these holy places as peaceful and comforting sites for the repose of our loved ones and for family and friends who wish to visit to pay their respects and to remember. Please help to enable this ongoing responsibility by making a donation to the perpetual care of the cemeteries in our parish.

Weather Dependent, please contact the office with all inquires.

Beginning on NOV. 16 from 1-3pm at HAP ~ SMB's Faith Community Hall, there will be an opportunity for conversation, friendship and sharing crafts...knitting, sewing, painting. This is an opportunity for all ages to gather, to create and share ideas! Children are welcome but any child under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. The coordinator is Norma Lord and if you have any questions, please contact the Office. Come for coffee/tea and crafts!!

I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the parishioners of Holy Apostles Parish who supported the Blessing Bags Mission, whether by donating items or by uplifting the mission in prayer.

I was genuinely overwhelmed by the positive support I received. I believe that God will bless not only the bag recipients but also those who generously gave from the heart.

Together, we are putting our Vision into action!
(Maryann - HAP)

PONDERS
Today’s First Reading from the First Book of Kings, as well as the Gospel passage from Mark, both center on the actions of two seemingly poor and helpless widows who show themselves to be faith-filled and generous stewards.

In the eyes of the world, particularly in biblical times when there was no life insurance or Social Security, these widows were weak and dependent on others to take care of them. They each found themselves in desperate situations — one in the midst of famine with a child for which to care, and the other clearly impoverished. Yet, each demonstrated strength and generosity that distinguished them from those around them. From where did this strength come?

It came from knowing who they are, and Whose they are. These women must have known their security would not come from a good life insurance policy or connections to someone with a hidden storehouse of flour.

No, their security came from knowing they were daughters of the Most High God and from putting their faith in Him. They had no need to panic in the midst of natural disaster or cling desperately to their menial resources. Their faith in God set them free to trust Him when all seemed hopeless. Their faith kept them detached from material possessions. Their faith allowed them to be brave and generous, to think of others despite their own trials.

These women saw themselves as stewards, not owners, of the resources God gave them, regardless of how much or how little they had. And acting as stewards made them gracious, generous and mighty indeed.
